November 2005, Karyn and Timothy went under contract for a new house. Closing is in late January. So, here is a little guided tour of the house that should be theirs soon. (Please remember that furnishings are of the current occupants)
This is the house! It's
brick construction, with a lovely porch,
you can see two flower beds either side of the steps to the porch, and
another small bed in the centre of the small piece of grass on the right. They
look a little sad right now, but that's because of the time of year, so no big
deal.
On the right you can see the gate
to the back yard.
A little closer view of the front.
If
you look carefully on the left, behind the green railing, you can see a porch
swing. On the right you can see our separate garage.
Here's the garage a little closer up. There are concrete tracks for the car
leading up to it, and it will take one car. We might build a car port out
the front of it so that two cars can be kept under at least some protection.
This is the back yard from the back of the house. All the fenced in area is
our main back yard. There's plenty of it!
Here is a supplementary yard which will make an ideal vegetable garden. The
land follows the line of the wooden fence along the right to the trees and
where you can just see the land rises a little. It then follows that line
to the left to the small green bush, and the land to the left lowers some.
Then it follows the line of that slope back towards the fence marking the main
back yard. That rectangle is part of the property.
This is looking up from the bottom of the back yard towards the house. You
can see the back of the garage on the left. The door you can see leads down
to the basement, and the steps lead up to the sun room. Under the sun room is
some storage space (currently used for storm windows or screens depending on
the time of year).
Inside the sun room - it has a nice airy feeling. It does have heating so
could be used as an additional, albeit small, bedroom.
The sun room has a recessed bookshelf in what was the external wall of the
house. We both really like features like that. The doorway you can just
see on the left leads to the kitchen.
The kitchen (viewed from the dining room). The door back out to the sun room
is to the right of the gas oven.
The full walk-in pantry/larder. It's technically off the sun room, but we will
probably use it as a larder too. It's really nice. The door to the left leads
down to the basement.
This is the dining room, as seen from the hallway. To the right is the door
leading to the kitchen. Note the lovely wooden floors. The window seat also
has some storage space inside.
This is the view from the dining room into the living room. This is one
of the reasons we love the house so much - the architectural features are just
stunning.
Here we look back into the dining room from the living room, with the kitchen
in the distance.
The living room. Again, beautiful wooden floors, and a faux-fireplace. The
fireplace could be converted to use gas logs, but I quite like the idea of
using candles in it. Note also the two stained glass windows.
Here's a close up of one of the stained glass windows. The dark red at the
bottom is actually a rich purple. We are considering giving the living
room a lick of lavender or lilac to complement that purple.
In the living room, looking through to the hallway and front door, showing
another archway.
From the hallway, back into the dining room, showing the third archway. To
the right is the door to the master bedroom.
The master bedroom. Closet in the corner. Ceiling fans are in
the lounge, dining room, and both bedrooms.
The completely re-done bathroom. The current occupants completely remodeled
the bathroom, including removing the floor completely. At one point
in the construction you could have fallen through to the basement!
This is the second bedroom. Currently being used as a nursery. Who knows
what use it will be put to in the future!
And lastly, the etched glass in the front door is a beautiful final touch.
